BLOG: Top 10 Least Favorite Players in the ACC

I'll be the first to admit the ACC has some players that are easy to root for like ... Cliff Hammonds, Tyrese Rice, Bambale Osby or Ty Lawson.
Guys that can be admired for their work on, and sometimes, off the court.
But there are more players who are much more easy to dislike. Maybe it's human nature. Maybe it's simply because there are an exceedingly high number of players in the league this year that are just ... well ... annoying.
You know who I'm talking about, it's not like it's some big mystery. Here's a list of the top 10 least favorite players in the ACC as things stand today:
10. G SEAN SINGLETARY (Virginia)
Singletary makes this list simply because it seems like he's played at Virginia for the last 17 years. Yes he's a good player, and let's be honest, he is Virginia basketball this year. But graduate already. Be done with it so we can all follow your career overseas.
9. F TYLER HANSBROUGH (North Carolina)
There are many aspects to Hansbrough's game that should be admired. The low-post game. The free-throw shooting. The rebounding. The toughness. Cancelling all of that out is the latest addition to his arsenal- the flop. You know, the same maneuver Greg Paulus has made so famous over the years? That's the one.
8. F GAVIN GRANT (N.C. State)
Another player in the league who seemingly has 14 years of eligibility. Once recruited by former State head coach Les Robinson, Grant will finally be done after the Pack's season mercifully ends after they are eliminated in the ACC tournament. Call him the Bruce Bowen of the ACC. He's just annoying to watch and he plays with a scowl that certainly hasn't helped State's lack of team chemistry this year.
7. G JACK MCCLINTON (Miami)
McClinton is a special player, no question. If anybody in the ACC can turn into Vinny Johnson, aka "The Microwave," it's McClinton. This guy can straight up score the basketball when he's called upon. We put him on this list for just that fact. He wins games for the 'Canes they have no business winning and whines when he doesn't get the calls he thinks he deserves.
6. G MATT CAUSEY (Georgia Tech)
Let's be honest here. This guy has no game but he thinks he does. Is there anything worse than watching somebody like that? Yeah Matt, we get it. You used play basketball for Georgetown but you weren't good enough there so you transferred to Georgia Tech for a year. Dude, you're not any good. Don't worry though, the offseason is just a week away.
5. F RYAN REID (Florida State)
He's the dirtiest player in the league and averages a whopping 4.8 points per game. Not surprisingly, he was tangled up with another player on our list in a matchup with Duke earlier this year. Clean in up Ryan.
4. F J.J. Hickson (N.C. State)
Yeah, we know you're good J.J. We know you lead the league in field goal percentage. We know some scouts are talking you as a future lottery pick. It's just too bad you couldn't carry your team into the NCAA Tournament. What is the problem with N.C. State anyway? They have NCAA talent, but not even NIT results. Ouch.
3. G JON SCHEYER (Duke)
He's Greg Paulus in training when it comes to the most annoying players in the ACC. It's his facial expressions. It's his mannerisms. It's everything. Scheyer delivers the total package on so many levels but still doesn't top our list.

Sure, give him credit for improving his shot this season, but he's still one of the most annoying players in the country to watch. Trust me when I write nobody will be more excited than me to see Green and the Heels dance their way out of the NCAA Touranment later this month because it's going to happen. It's called defense. Stop the dancing and learn how to defend the basket and maybe you've got a chance.

I'm surprised after seeing the game against Maryland and hearing that Vasquez didn't shake hands you didn't have him on the list.

Seriously, no Vasquez...no Washington from VT. And Paulus not being #1 is ridiculous. Also I think you should swallow a little pride and put Oglesby on the list. I attend Clemson and love Oglesby, but I can also see how he would be annoying to other fans. A little Reddick-esque. Other than that, list is pretty solid.
Washington from VT should absolutely be on the list just cause he's such an @sshole. And I can't believe Paulus isn't #1. Even my Duke friends don't like him.

Stupidity like this is what results from a football writer doing a bball blog. Leaving out Vazquez and Washington are glaring omissions, not to mention Duke's Singler and McClure. And lastly, how is this front-page material on CUTigers.com? This site doesn't even try to be a respectable publication.
Vasquez is one of my favorite players in the league. He does take too many risks at times but he's the heart and soul of that Maryland team. Whether or not they make the tournament is another story but he is a tough matchup for any team in this league because of his length and ability to distribute the basketball.
I'm open for discussion on Deron Washington. Watching Tech beat Wake Forest last night made me pause but I ended up leaving him off the list.
Admittingly, not everyone that made the top 10 was put there simply because they flop or are generally thought of as annoying players. I can see arguments FOR Jack McClinton and Sean Singletary being left off, but watching McClinton floor-level in person just a week ago, I can tell you he's a whiner. He wined to the refs. Whined to his teammates for being in the wrong position. You name it and he was whining about it.
If you're a North Carolina fan and you are reading this, I'm sorry, I don't know how you can look at yourself in the mirror every morning and claim to "enjoy" or "respect" Danny Green.

Danny Green is one of the nicest, most respectable kids you could ever meet. He's gone through a pretty rough time with his dad being in prison. This is just the kind of list that can hurt a kid's self-esteem and pride that absolutely doesn't deserve it. You say Rice from Boston College is respectable, yet he was doing a crazy dance before the game last Saturday. Yet for some reason he's great and Danny's a tool. Yeah, you make a lot of sense.

The funny thing is North Carolina's 2007-08 basketball team is the most overrated in the history of the league. The fans are even blind to this fact but as Roy points out in his well-written blog, YOU OVERRATED JACKASSES don't play defense! Look at the stats! You mention his dance prior to the tip and I'll be honest, I like that. At least they do something unique, unlike Zombie Nation-which it seems everybody has adopted. As for Matt Causey, what are you talking about? He's Tech's best scorer and the toughest guy they have. I don't even know why I wasted my time commenting, but thought it was necessary to provide a reasonable perspective on this. Stop bashing Green and Causey. Also lol at those who are bringing up football. Please. Your last ACC championship in football was? Your last national title in football was? At least dominate the sport your school cares about. At least Duke and Unc can handle that. For example, in the past 25 years, the two schools have accounted for six national championships, 17 final fours, 21 regular season ACC titles, and 17 ACC tournament titles.

How dare you insult the great UNC. Look at all the baby blues you have upset now. How dare somebody not like any one of THEIR players!!
UNC fans, yes you are a basketball school, you have accomplished much to be proud of and others will be envious of your success. However, your success on the hardwood does not qualify you to downgrade other programs whom you may feel are "underneath" you. The fact is many UNC fans don't like to see the improvement of Clemson under Purnell...as we will not be considered an "easy" win any longer. Will Clemson achieve the success of UNC? No, but they are no longer a pushover, as you found out this year.
The fact is: UNC is a basketball school, always will be, and Clemson is a football school, always will be. It just so happens that Clemson is now a decent basketball team too. As long as Purnell is the HC, the tigers will remain a dangerous team.
Paulus is surely #1 on this list, but I think that Deron Washington from VT should definitely be up there. He's just a thug who can jump and thinks he's better than he is.
The Causey analysis was dead-on as he forces up too many ridiculous shots. Even his teammates hate him.

Deron Washington, Greg Paulus and Tyler Hansborough would be co-Number 1's on my list. I don't see Causey who plays hard and am not that annoyed with Green. BUT, I can't go along with leaving Vasquez or Washington off the list.
Washington from VT should definitely be added. McClinton and Singletary should be off.
Add a couple more Duke players - that whole team is annoying. I can't wait for the tournament game where the officials actually call an even game and they all have that "are you kidding" look and go down in flames.
Also Hansbrough should be much higher. He's a punk. When he actually has to match up with a player as physically imposing as himself, he bitches up. He starts throwing elbows when he gets pushed around - a dirty little girl he is.
Hey Kittens, Say what you will about Tyler. You cannot change the fact that he has more drive,determination and HEART than anyone in college basketball. I know you dislike us and I understand why. If my team got beaten down with any sort of regularity as the kittens when they play Carolina, I would hate them as well. You have a good team and I admire your coach. He has class and talent and will take your team far in the future. I respect the team more than I do the redneck inbred fans. But know this, you will NEVER attain the awards,accolades and success that Carolina has. Its a cold hard truth. Btw, before you spout off about your football team(which I respect as well) understand that we have had much more success against your fb team than you have had or ever will have against our basetball team.
You Clemson basketball fans are now and always will be one thing in the acc.......wannabes. Last i heard, You were changing to you fight song to "Like Mike, if I could be like Mike....I wannabe I wannabe..etc. and your cheer should be MEOW! instead of a roar
love the post. i agree with most that hansbrough and his contact lens should be higher on the list. i think the list should be expanded to anyone who has played ACC basketball in the past to include: kenny "the thug" inge, mr.gaygay redick, and of course rashad mccan't read...the list could really go on and on. but the thing is, we remember all of these guys for their play and the character they had on the court no matter how ridiculous they are...
Ok so you were talking about how UNC is going to "dance" their way out of the NCAA tourney; when Clemson is BARELY going to make it in and most definitely not going to make it past the field of 32.
